Christian Liclair is an art historian and critic. Until recently, he was Editor-in-Chiefof Texte zur Kunst. His monograph Sexually Explicit Art,Feminist Theory, and Gender in the 1970s was published by Routledge in2022. He likes short and concise biographies.
At PART Christian continues to pursue his current project about the concept of edging, borrowed from erotic practice, where it names the deferral of climax and the prolongation of desire—as a new analytic for art history. He investigates how artworks from early modern still life and Rococo painting to contemporary queer, feminist, and trans practices mobilize heightened sensuality, repetition, and suspension to unsettle normative ideas of subjectivity, perception, and aesthetic value.
