Omar Gamal Abd El-Baqi Reyad (EG)

In cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum in Cairo and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna

Febuary 2026

Omar Abd El-Baqi (b. 1997, Egypt) is a Cairo-based artist whose work explores the politics of memory and erasure. His practice draws on stories passed down through word of mouth, particularly within marginalized communities, reflecting on how collective memory is shaped and often distorted by systems of power. Working across drawing, installation, text, and found objects, Omar examines what is remembered and preserved, what is silenced, and who is granted the right to speak.

At PART, Omar's goal is to engage directly with the Phonogrammarchiv at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, especially its Middle Eastern and Arabic sound archives. Access to these archives will help the artist shaping oral storytelling into material forms and objects, developing a more structured way of working with sound, memory, and narrative.

Omar Abd El-Baqi was selected via an Open Call in cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum in Cairo and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
